19/8/2005
Kuala Lumpur, Friday 19 August 2005 - Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today signed a DSL Wholesale Service Agreement with JARING Communications Sdn Bhd to deliver the Broadband Access connectivity Service to JARING's Internet users.
Under the terms of the agreement, TM will provide the Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) ports, a new high speed last mile access technology that transports data and multimedia over the 'last mile' of copper telephone lines.
Developed for Internet Service Provider (ISP), Application Service Provider (ASP) and Network Service Provider (NSP), DSL Wholesale offers nationwide access to the growing broadband market in Malaysia. DSL Wholesale is an integrated solution comprising various components that includes: Fixed Access, Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM), Broadband Remote Access Server (BRAS), Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and Internet Protocol (IP).
It is an ideal platform offered to JARING Communications Sdn Bhd for the bundling of applications and content with broadband access - audio and video streaming, portal applications, net-meeting, e-commerce services, where almost everything is possible with 24-hour 'always on' connection speeds of up to 1Mbps.
At the Signing Ceremony, TM was represented by YBhg. Dato' Baharum Salleh, Chief Operating Officer, TM Wholesale and Mr. P. Sritharan, Vice President, Marketing & Sales, TM Wholesale while JARING Communications Sdn Bhd was represented by Dr. Mohamed bin Awang Lah, Chief Executive Officer and Encik Mohd Nasruddin bin Johari, General Manager, Customer Service.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dato' Baharum said "Being our first customer, DSL Wholesale Service will provide JARING an instant nationwide broadband access and opportunity to bundle an independent service package in the shortest time and at minimum amount of cost. This will assist JARING and other potential service providers to overcome the high levels of investment, capital cost and other obstacles to serve the potential broadband customers and drive the take up of broadband access line to meet the objectives of the National Broadband Plan".
