DUMAI MALACCA CABLE SYSTEM (DMCS)

Pengkalan Balak, Malacca, 17 February 2005 - Telekom Malaysia launched an international submarine cable - Dumai Malacca Cable System (DMCS) at Pengkalan Balak, Malacca.

The DMCS submarine cable at the length of 160 km crosses the Straits of Malacca connecting Dumai in Sumatera, Indonesia with Malacca, Malaysia. In the initial stage of the DMCS submarine cable with system capacity of 40Gbps only managed to transfer an amount of 483 840 calls simultaneously to both countries. Nevertheless, DMCS has been upgraded to a maximum capacity of 320 Gbps which manage to carry 3,870,720 calls simultaneously between Malaysia and Indonesia.

With the increase international traffic between Malaysia and Indonesia, this high capacity submarine cable system plays an important part in delivering the request for fixed line and data services. This proves that there is an increase in demand for broadband services in the Malaysia and Indonesia market.
